Canción de Cuna

for bassoon quintet

by Jay Vosk, American composer

ABOUT THE MUSIC

Canción de Cuna for bassoon quartet is, essentially, a theme and five variations. The theme is based on a gentle Lullaby from Honduras. This is followed  by two  pairs of variations with contrasting, tempos, moods, textures and the like. After a brief interlude, the work concludes with a quiet reprise of the opening theme. I wrote this piece in homage to the Honduran people, many of whom face hunger, poverty and violence on a daily basis.
