First Light
for oboe and piano

This work was written in 2005 for Dwight Manning, Associate professor of oboe at the University of Georgia. At the first light of day, before sunrise, the world is slowly coaxed from its slumber. With its quiet, lyrical opening and pauses, First Light embodies this sense of awakening as it gradually becomes more animated and energetic.
