A rarity from the mid-19th century. This sonata is more of a collaboration between piano and bassoon, with the piano playing the major role. This work also exists in a version for horn and piano, and was dedicated to the horn virtuoso Giovanni Puzzi.  A great recital piece that allows the bassoonist to take it easy while showcasing the accompanist. Good parts for all, however.
