Two Marches from the Americas
for woodwind quintet: flute, oboe, clarinet, horn, and bassoon
by Ole Bornemann Bull (1810-1880) - Norwegian composer

1. Grand March to the Memory of George Washington
2. Agiaco Cubano from "Celebrated Spanish Airs"

Ole Bornemann Bull was a revered Norwegian composer who wrote in many genres. These arrangements of two marches were best known, perhaps, as piano pieces that had been earlier arranged from larger orchestra works. The first is a "Grand March to the Memory of George Washington." Perhaps from Bull's perspective (and for good marketing) it was "grand" but it is really a pleasant march of only moderate difficulty from an era now oft forgotten. Likewise, the 2nd march, which is slightly more extensive called "Agiaco Cubano" is from his Celebrated Spanish Airs. Both offer a pleasant insight into this musical style of the mid-19th century.
Arranged by Trevor Cramer.
