Published in early 2012, this four movement work is scored for standard woodwind quartet of Flute, Oboe, Clarinet (Bb), and Bassoon. One of Bill's longer works, this was commissioned by a consortium of over 100 musicians and ensembles. Exciting, great fun, and enjoyable for performers and audience. The first and last movements follow the basic jazz form: a unison theme, followed by an improvisation on the chords of the theme, and then a return to the theme with variations. In this case, however, the 'improvisation' sections are completely written out, and in both movements there is a contrasting middle section. The second movement uses a six note scale sometimes known as an augmented scale, with a middle section that uses a half tone/whole tone scale. The third movement was influenced by Irish music and African music. At the beginning, it uses a bell pattern from Ghana.
