Written for Russ Hinkle and the Northern Hills Bassoon Ensemble, who had requested something "slow and pretty" for sis bassoons. Prior to that, the composer's works for the group had been of a light, or dance nature. In this piece, the ensemble is treated as a serious medium, perfectly capable of deep, lyrical expression.
