The Skye Boat Song is a well-known and much-loved traditional tune from Scotland. This version for double reed ensemble gives each player a chance to play at least part of the melody, but there are also arpeggiated figures in the bassoon lines and elaborate decorative motifs in the two oboe parts. These last give the impression of improvisation and an enhanced regional flavor through the use of the Scotch Snap.
