Strange Spaces, Sacred Places for bassoon and piano

1. In Memoriam-Sandy Hook

"In Memoriam" written shortly after the tragic events which took place at Sandy Hook, December 14th, 2012. An elegiac solemn composition depicting the innocent nature of the young children lost in that winter morning.

2. Jazz Club

This is a dance combining elements of Cuban Salsa, Jazz, and traditional classical counterpoint.

3. Three-Ring Circus

The traditional American circus, originating int he town of Somers, NY, is near to where the composer currently lives. This piece is a lighthearted, playful march, depicting imagery common to the traditional American circus. The piece is broadly set in three sections (introduction of circus participants, the sad clown, the triumph of the acrobats). The dictionary definition of a Three Ring Circus is: "Something spectacular, tumultuous and entertaining", and alternately, "a place with a lot of busy and confusing activity..." These are perhaps also apt descriptions for this musical representation.
