Musical Confrontations (1985)
for woodwind quintet and brass quintet

Musical Confrontations is based for a classical woodwind quintet versus a Dixieland Jazz brass quintet, although those definitions don't last long. The styles get intermingles and traded off, which can give the audience quite a different experience. The work may be performed traditionally, but is meant to let the musicians' imaginations fun wild with staging. Just one example would be to let the woodwind begin on stage alone to be invaded by the brass at the appropriate time.
