ABOUT THE MUSIC
Frost and Fire, for bassoon and piano, is based on the story of the same name by Ray Bradbury. The music follows the trajectory of the story about Sim, a creature on another planet who will only live for eight days. He still searches for meaning in his short life, experiencing family, love and war. He eventually reaches a mythical spaceship, which allows him to save his entire race from their life on an inhospitable planet, as the music portrays their peaceful ascent into the heavens.
The piece was written for bassoonist Jeffrey McCray, and was premiered at the 2025 IDRS Conference at Butler University with the composer at the piano. Mr. Krinke and Dr. McCray are faculty members at Colorado Mesa University
