Dark Diversion, op. 207
for oboe and cello
by Michael Kibbe (b. 1945) - American composer
Too many 19th Century Novels, perhaps! The titles of the three movements are not to indicate specific scenes of occurrences, merely to set a certain dark color as background for the musical ideas. There being very few works for this combination of instruments, Dark Diversion should fare well in the chamber music world. This piece was commissioned for the splendid cellist Maksim Velichkin, who premiered it with me in a very atmospheric setting in October, 2012.
