I. Aira
II. Scherzo
This edition comes with an alternate English horn part in lieu of 4th oboe. Aria and Scherzo was commissioned by Teri Brockway, the band director at Westbrook Intermediate School in Friendswood, TX. The first movement, Aria, should be played as if it were being sung. The oboe's sound is similar to the human voice in terms of how expressive it can be, so each line should be played as lyrically as possible. The second movement, Scherzo, is where all the performers get a chance to shine. Each part takes the lead at least once before passing it off, giving all four parts an equal say in the musical conversation.
