32 Easy Etudes
32 Etudes Faciles Pour Basson
for bassoon
by Claude-Henry Joubert - French composer and pedagogue
These easy etudes are quite short. Their brevity is intentional, to allow each student to work carefully on sound, intonation, rhythm, dynamics, tone color, playing styles, interpretation, and musicality without being encumbered by a piece's length. These etudes can also be used as sight-reading exercises. any of them present a character, express a mood or tell a story, making the titles important and helpful for interpretive decisions. Certain of the pieces such as Triste apparition de Pierrot, Valse de Colombine, and Arlequin badin, badin... can be joined together to make a suite. For concert performance, it is also possible to add a little text, to write a commentary, devise a theatrical situation, or even to prepare a full dramatic staging.
