The Sonata for two bassoons and piano was written in 1962 after working with the compositions by Béla Bartók. During the cooperation with Dieter Hähnchen for his books Zeitgenössische Fagottmusik für den Unterricht mit Einführung in moderne Spieltechniken (HERE) and Zeitgenössische Fagottmusik für 2 Fagotte (HERE) Bernd Casper revised this Sonata and integrated new playing techniques.
