Shedder's Corner
for bassoon and piano
by Joshua D. Britt (b. 1980)
Shedder's Corner is a flashy folk style piece and is inspired by a meeting place in the countryside that is quite scenic. Near "Shedders Corner," which was named by the locals, there was always a milo field across the road and of course lots of other fields, tall grass, trees and other scenic countryside landscaping surrounding the area. Thinking of places like this inspires the composer to write whatever melodies come to mind and such is the case for this music. The piece is country scenic, but people were always meeting at "Shedder's Corner" and driving onward to other places and to other activitics so the melody has some drive to it. The music features a metronomic modulation, rondo form, a galloping rhythm, harmonic minor scales, and a double harmonic (or byzantine) scale interwoven within the lyrical major scales for some added intensity.
