ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Scott Bell was born in Fairfield, Iowa and began to play the oboe in the local public school music program. Thus began his passion for music education and working with young musicians. For many years he was the woodwind coach for the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony and head of the oboe department at Duquesne University. He has also given master classes in Asia, South America and North America.
Presently Professor of Oboe at the Tianjin Juilliard School in China, Mr. Bell spent 28 years as oboist in the Pittsburgh Symphony. As an orchestral player, he has participated in Grammy winning and Grammy nominated performances. His major studies were at the Cleveland Institute of Music where he studied with legendary oboist and teacher, John Mack. He has the distinction of being the first oboist to win First Prize in the Fernand Gillet International Oboe Competition. In addition to his teaching and orchestral career, Mr. Bell has given recitals, performed as soloist with orchestra and played chamber music all over the world.
ABOUT THE EDITOR
Stefanie Cohn is Professor of Oboe at Cleveland State University, and she currently performs oboe and English horn with the Mansfield Symphony and the Ashland Symphony Orchestra.
She is one of the editors of John Mack Teaches Barret’s 12 Articulation Studies, a published e-book that features both the teaching and playing of legendary oboist and teacher John W. Mack. She holds degrees from Florida State University and Duquesne University, and she primarily studied with Scott Bell, Dr. Eric Ohlsson, and Danna Sundet.
