The Daliphants
for bassoon quartet
by Luc Grethen (b. 1964)- Luxembourgish composer and pedagogue

This "amiable, merry, and playful" quartet was inspired by a picture of elephants by artist Salvador Dali, "St. Anthony's Temptation". In the composer's mind, the elephants become "Daliphants"; they start by marching, they fall to the ground, they bump into each other, dance a Tango, and fall into a light slumber, moving in a grotesque and surrealistic manner.
